Day Two of the Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet

Day 2: July 10:
OK, let’s try this again. This morning I juiced the lemons for my day’s supply of lemonade. I started by adding four tablespoons of 100% organic maple syrup to each of three 20-ounce containers. Then I juiced 10 lemons – which made 12 ounces of lemon juice. I added four ounces to each of the containers with the maple syrup. Then I added a dash of cayenne pepper to each container. I actually have measuring spoons that measure a ‘dash’ and a ‘smidgen.’ The original recipe called for ½ teaspoon cayenne per 12 ounces of lemon juice, so I figured that three dashes makes ½ teaspoon. I put two of the containers in the refrigerator for later today and added crushed ice and water to the third container to fill it up. I shook it, and took a drink. It is an unusual flavor, not one I think I would choose to drink for refreshment. The maple syrup adds some odd, almost smoky flavor and of course the cayenne gives it a kick. I have a problem with heartburn from spicy food, so I discovered that if I follow each sip of the lemonade with a drink of water, the fire from the cayenne is put out immediately. I don’t drink it all at once, but just a mouthful at a time whenever I feel a bit hungry. Thirst is not a problem. It is almost 10 am and I am just about to finish my first container of juice. Then I am going to the hospital to see how my dad is doing.

I came back home at about 2:00, picked my granddaughter up at summer camp and am now waiting to hear from the hospital so I can go pick Dad up and take him home. He will be released sometime this afternoon. I added ice and water to the second bottle of lemon juice/maple syrup/cayenne pepper mixture and started on it. It tastes pretty bad, actually. I am not sure if I am going to be able to get the whole thing down. The more I drink it, the worse it tastes. But I will keep at it.

At 6:00 I went to get Dad. I finished the second bottle but could not bring myself to start the third one. Even the smell is getting to me. I have a feeling I will not be able to do this for even a few days, let alone 10. If the taste was better, it would not be that difficult to do. I will have my tea this evening, and maybe some orange juice, but I cannot do anymore of the lemonade. I will try again tomorrow.
