Spring Cleansing: Day 1

Things I was anticipating:

  • Headache
  • Lethargy
  • Grumpiness

Things I was not anticipating:

  • Suddenly wanting foods that I don’t even like
  • Feeling so light (not light-headed, just light)
  • Energy

Of the first three things, the only one I came close to experiencing was lethargy and that was fleeting.  I started to feel tired more readily towards the end of the day, but that only makes sense.  I don’t know why I didn’t anticipate the whole “hunger” thing though, but it only hit home today.  Everything smelled better and I had to remind myself why I was doing what I was doing a few times.  However, I did let myself imagine all the good things I was going to eat after my cleanse (starting off slowly with some soup, of course).

I also discovered that I wasn’t drinking nearly enough of the master cleanse drink.  Partly from a misunderstanding with the instructions and partly because while at work it could get difficult to get to the back to get a few sips.

I’ve gotten home so late that I’m holding off on the salt water flush part (you are supposed to drink a certain ratio of salt water to help your system and keep your electrolytes in balance).  I think it will be OK if I step into that part tomorrow.

The best part of my day was definitely the yoga for cleansing I did this morning.  I love yoga, but it’s been awhile since I was regularly practicing.  It felt good to get back into some asanas, and the series I did was designed to aid in the process I’m trying to do with this cleanse.  I subscribe to a video podcast called “yogamazing” and they have these great practices put together for different things.  If you are getting into yoga or have been doing it for awhile, it’s a great tool to try!

All in all, the first day of cleansing was not bad at all.  Not even one little bit.  Hopefully I will maintain the positivity the duration of it.  Tomorrow will be more of the same with the yoga and the drink, but I’ll be adding more fasting tea (Yogi brand makes a really good one) and I’ll be doing the salt water flush.  Plus, it’s a day off, so I’ll be able to dedicate some more time to the cleansing and purging of the physical space around me, creating that area that is open to the peace and order I need.  I’ll also be able to give some time to other things here and there, I hope, but I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow when I can summarize it here.

I sure am hungry, but I feel good about this process, this journey, I’m starting.
